By the winner of the 2014 Jimmy Watson Trophy! During his time as chief red wine maker at Hardy's, Stephen Pannell became intmate with many of the greater Adelaide region's most splendid sites. The uncompromising pursuit of excellence brings the Yealands team to the extreme viticultural climes of Gibbston Valley in Central Otago. It is here under the frigid cloudless night skies that Pinot Noir vines, planted to undulating granite schist soils, struggle to yield harvests of parched grapes, redolent with cherry berry perfumes, bursting with an intensity of flavour and wrapped in a muslin of seamless, velvet tannins. Yealands Estate»

The five most most exclusive parcels of old vine Shiraz, a secret component of the Barossa's most memorable vintages, hand picked off the De Fazio and Hillview vineyards at Belvidere and Moppa. Batches are crushed into traditional open top fermenters for a week of pumpovers, gently pressed into an extravagantly high proportion of new French oak hogsheads for two years maturation, followed by the final assemblage, unfiltered and unfined. Campbell's Topaque is the most wickedly intense, lusciously rich elixir, laden with candied peel flavours, honeycombed fruit and amber complexities. Painstakingly crafted to the old world Solera system, a bespoke tradition of fractional blending and elevage, achieving the most indulgent concentration of flavour through a laborious racking of barrels as the angels take their share. Campbells»
From two blocks of superior vines grown to the McLaren Flat estate, hand planted by the Scarpantoni brothers in the early 1970s. Brothers Block claimed Australia's most illustrious award, the highly coveted Jimmy Watson trophy in 2007. Scarpantoni»
Yealands Seaview Vineyard is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough, high sunshine and billowing winds wind, cool nights and low rainfalls for a smaller, thicker skinned Pinot Gris of exciting intensity. Fruit from the relatively flat, coastal L6M block, provides a pure mineral elegance to the structural backbone. Yealands Estate»
A solid Cabernet Sauvignon with profound structure and vigorous fruit, the essential Coonawarra style, exuding rich bramble, berries and cassis aromas characters over soft, elegant tannins. Flametree Margaret River Shiraz $299.88/Case of 12
[ Back ]
Available by the dozen
Shiraz by Flametree of Margaret River. Soft extraction techniques and open ferments have achieved a wine of ripe fruit flavours and fine tannin structure. The length of Margaret River's coastline hosts a tapestry of terroirs, each expressing a subtle variation on the profoundly aromatic and intense regional style. Shiraz is harvested off vines planted to propitious gravel soils on select sites with a history of yielding moderate crops of the most intensely flavoured fruit. Ageing in older barrels has kept oak in the back ground and ensured that fruit flavours are star of the show.

At Flametree, the vision is to produce brilliant Australian wines of uncompromising quality and character

The Flametree is a spectacular Australian tree, in full bloom, a magnificent sight to behold. Interestingly it only comes into full flower when all conditions are favourable. The same is true of winemaking. To produce spectacular, wine all of the elements, from grape to glass, must come together at the right time.

The Flametree Winery is located on the picturesque shores of Geographe Bay within the Margaret River winegrowing region. The team at Flametree select exceptional fruit to produce beautifully handcrafted wines with unique flavours, great depth and fine structure.

The Flametree philosophy is an elegant yet laid back approach to wine, ensuring that whenever you enjoy a bottle of Flametree it is a relaxed and enjoyable experience. The Flametree Cellar Door has been designed to capture the essence of the beautiful beachside locale. A selection of Flametree wines are available for tasting each day and all of the range including new vintage releases and a selection of limited release wines can be enjoyed over a bottle of wine in beautiful landscaped gardens.

A new state-of-the-art winery was completed in 2007. The winery is a reflection of a commitment to excellence, the design ensures minimal fruit handling and a significant investment has been made in acquiring equipment and technology that maintains the integrity and purity of fruit. A selection of French oak barrels are used to mature the wines, with a little American thrown in to add diversity as required.

Given the favourable climate conditions of the southwest, night cooling is employed to keep the barrel room temperature controlled. The system kicks in when the external temperature reaches 18 degrees Celsius or less. Any warmer internal air is sucked out and the cool night air is allowed to flow into the building. This system minimises refrigeration requirements and environmental impact. A custom designed environmental waste water treatment system means that all of the water used in the winemaking process is recycled and used to irrigate vines and surrounding landscape.

Flametree is a highly meritorious winemaking estate that works very closely with some of the Margaret River's most dedicated growers. It is truly amazing to see a new winery claim such an impressive string of reputable awards, so early in their career, immediately upon their label’s debut appearance around the Australian wine show circuit. Flametree's commitment to excellence is the driving force which sees the quality of their wines gain stature with every vintage. The Flametree team's passionate approach is rewarded by accolades and the respect of peers. The philosophy at Flametree is to make wines that express the quality of the fruit sourced and to strike the right balance between flavour and structure.

Flametree is home of the 2008 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, Australia's most highly prized accolade for wine. Flametree was honored with Trophies for best red and best blended red (as well as gold) for the very same Jimmy Watson winning wine at the 2008 Qantas Wine Show. Flametree also beat hundreds of entries to win the best dry table red wine in a David and Goliath-style battle at the IGA Perth Royal Show awards.
