The five most most exclusive parcels of old vine Shiraz, a secret component of the Barossa's most memorable vintages, hand picked off the De Fazio and Hillview vineyards at Belvidere and Moppa. Batches are crushed into traditional open top fermenters for a week of pumpovers, gently pressed into an extravagantly high proportion of new French oak hogsheads for two years maturation, followed by the final assemblage, unfiltered and unfined. Sherwood Estate's winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, a 45-minute drive north of the city of Christchurch, where Sherwood Estate own four separate vineyards. Four further vineyards are also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island.

Sherwood Estate is very much a personal family business, with Dayne and Jill owning and operating it since the late 1980s. These are • Claymore Vineyard Church Road • Whitestone Vineyard Georges Road • Weka Creek Vineyard MacKenzies Road • The Terrace Vineyard MacKenzies Road. This splendid array of prime vineyards are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay.

Further north are the estate's Marlborough vineyards: • Hammerichs Road Vineyard • Selmes Road Vineyard • Rowley Crescent Vineyard • Old Renwick Road Vineyard. These vineyards are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Dayne and Jill Sherwood now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling.

In the vineyards, the family and their vignerons are flat out supervising the contract teams around Marlborough and Waipara. Vines are covered with nets to protect the fruit from local fauna.

Sherwood Estate operate their own modern and fully equipped winery where all winemaking tasks are undertaken from crushing and pressing — through to bottling, under the careful guidance of the Senior Winemaker. Three ranges of wines are produced under the Sherwood umbrella. • The Clearwater Range • The Sherwood Estate Range • The Stratum Range

The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from our own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery where meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard’s unique characteristics or “terroir”. This range is unashamedly exclusive for those who appreciate the difference.

The Sherwood Estate range proudly carries the name of the winery and owners and so reflects Sherwood Estate’s commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed from our own Marlborough and Waipara Vineyards as well as selected growers; this range is internationally acclaimed for its excellent quality/value ratio. The Stratum range is crafted by our winemaker to reflect intense varietal fruit flavours from classic varieties producing finished wines of consistently excellent quality and wide appeal.
