Named for the Chapel district of Lenton in Nottingham, Brae is Scottish for a small hill, which is what the Lenton Brae vineyard is situated on. Fortuitously placed within the very epicenter for superior Margaret River Cabernet, the site was planted after advisement from the proprietors of nearby Moss Wood, with which it shares a similar terroir and microclime. Lenton Brae»
The term Terra rossa means red earth, a rich, free draining soil that is considered by many as the viticultural equivalent of discovering gold. Beneath the strata of red earth at Wrattonbully sits a layer of ancient limestone, a winegrower's dream as it allows free drainage of water, yet ensures vine roots stay close to the surface, putting natural stress on the vine and limiting its vigor and yield. Excellent Langtons Classification. Winner of Australia's most coveted award, the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for vintage 1992, Elderton are one of the nation's great icon winemakers. Elderton»
The uncompromising pursuit of excellence brings the Yealands team to the extreme viticultural climes of Gibbston Valley in Central Otago. It is here under the frigid cloudless night skies that Pinot Noir vines, planted to undulating granite schist soils, struggle to yield harvests of parched grapes, redolent with cherry berry perfumes, bursting with an intensity of flavour and wrapped in a muslin of seamless, velvet tannins. Yealands Estate»
Longview is one of the most highly awarded wineries in Adelaide Hills, having claimed multi trophies and medals at the Adelaide Hills Wine Show. The predominantly northeast facing slopes and valleys, combined with the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills and superior winemaking practices, have produced outstanding vintages. Longview»
All Saints store their ageing fortifieds in the Great Hall, an area of a castle built in the 1880s, and lined with huge 100-year-old oak casks, filled with rare wines. Some of these fortified wines are up to eighty years old and form the base of the rich fortified All Saints blends. All Saints»
White Label is a McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest eminence, having been nominated for the George Mackey Memorial Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding Australian export. Crafted from fruit grown to some of the oldest vines at Pirramimma and McLaren Vale, it has twice claimed Gold in San Francisco and competed well against a formidable host of distinguished growths at the prestigious London International. Pirramimma»
Tio Pepe is the world's leading Fino, a very pale and dry style of wine made in the southwest of Spain. Produced since 1844 by the Gonzalez family of Jerez, Tio Pepe has a distinctive aroma and a unique taste. Tio Pepe»
The enthusiastic maritime climes of Martinborough are heaven sent for a style and quality of Sauvignon Blanc to rival the world's finest. Mother nature sets the stage, but ultimately it is the thoughtful viticultural practices of the Palliser Estate team, which ensures a harvest of ripe and intensely flavoured Sauvignon Blanc at every vintage. Palliser Estate»
Daniel James Wilson would write DJW rules on school book covers, desks, garden edgings and wet concrete whenever the opportunity arose. In 1997 DJW established a small 5¬Ĺ acre plot of Riesling in the highest and most fertile corner of the family property. Wilson Vineyard»
The quality of Shiraz grown to parched vineyards in Victoria's rugged western districts, has been well known throughout the world of wine since the days of gold rush and early settlement. Taltarni have since established an enviable reputation for vintages of powerfully structured, statuesque red wines, fully exploiting the soft spoken majesty and graceful intensity of Pyrenees Shiraz comes naturally. Taltarni»
Named for a rare grasshopper Sigaus childi, found only at Central Otago within the Earnscleugh gold mine tailings, just across the road from Grasshopper Rock vineyard. The site is fortuitously harsh and sufficiently challenging to make the vines work their hardest. Grasshopper Rock»

SC Pannell

http://www.pannell.com.au/ - SC Pannell - Tasting Notes On Australian & New Zealand wines
Stephen Pannell is one of the nation's most decorated winemakers, he makes wine that's designed to accompany the Australian way of life, wines that drink well alongside the opulent menu of ingredients and cuisines which are on offer in the land downun

SC Pannell is a small, family owned and operated winery, established 2004 by Stephen Pannell and wife Fiona Lindquist. The winery was founded to focus on Stephen's passion for McLaren Vale and its ability to produce dry grown, environmentally sustainable Shiraz and Grenache. In his capacity as Chief Red Wine Maker at BRL Hardy, Pannell gained an intimate knowledge of the regionís vineyards and sub-regional variations, he was able to secure exquisite parcels of old vine Grenache and Shiraz from low yielding, dry grown sites. He wanted to make wines from the region that express their sense of place and define the character and expression of McLaren Vale.

http://www.pannell.com.au/ - SC Pannell - Tasting Notes On Australian & New Zealand wines

Stephen Pannell has been named one of the 50 most influential contributors to the world of wine by the UK's Decanter Magazine. His extensive knowledge and experience has been garnered over many years, working with some of Australiaís most iconic wineries, including Wirra Wirra, Tintara and BRL Hardy where he was Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003. He has worked numerous overseas vintages at such places as Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and G.D. Vajra in Barolo.

Pannell's choice of vinification techniques remain decidedly old world, open fermentation, natural yeast and maturation in large format oak, to ensure that the natural expression of vineyard, fruit and wine are all preserved. Components of whole bunches may be introduced, vintage permitting, to incite partial carbonic maceration, extract fine stem tannins and enhance complexity.

Highlights in Stephenís career include winning the title of International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge in London, winning the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show and twice winning the Max Schubert Trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show. In 2011 Stephen won the Mclaren Valeís top award and the title of 2011 Bushing King.

Stephen has also turned his talents to harvests from Adelaide Hills, the escarpment which runs above McLaren Vale in the south and continues through toward Barossa Valley in the north, to create a range of textural, aromatic whites, as well as a highly awarded cool climate Syrah.

After returning from working with Aldo Vajra in Barolo in 2004 he received a request to look at a Nebbiolo vineyard in Gumeracha in the northern area of Adelaide Hills. The vineyard is planted with five different clones, including clone 230, which is the preferred clone in Barolo and SC Pannell has been making Nebbiolo from this fantastic vineyard ever since. SC Pannell Nebbiolo 2008 won Best Wine of Show at the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in 2012. The year 2012 also saw Pannell purchase his first vineyard in the Blewitt Springs area of McLaren Vale. This is a vineyard Stephen has coveted since his early days at Hardyís. The construction of a cellar door ensured exciting times ahead for the SC Pannell wineworks.

SC Pannell Grenache is fast becoming legendary in the world of international fine wine enthusiasts. It received the Melbourne Wine Show Trophy for Best Other Varietal. In the same week, also winning trophies for Best Grenache. "I wouldn't be surprised if in 40 years time that we're talking about this guy as one of the greatest Australian winemakers ever to make wine in our age!" -Nick Stock Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide, "This is a label which is well on the way to icon-status!" -James Halliday Australian Wine Companion
